Foundation donates to Mission team’s food bank
May 6, 2020
The SD Community Foundation made matching funds available for communities that have a Community Savings Account with them to assist with coronavirus relief projects. As a board, we had decided that our local foundation would not give out grants until we had reached our full fundraising goal of $200,000. However, with the coronavirus having a huge impact on individuals in our community we thought we should take a look and see if we could assist with any projects that local non-profits were working on. We were made aware of the Methodist Church Mission team working on starting a local food pantry to better serve our community. After hearing what they were working on we felt it was only right to leverage the money we currently had to bring back a huge benefit to this project. We were excited to find out that our grant application was accepted. $3,000 is coming from the earning our local foundation has made over the past few years along with a $3,000 grant from the SD Community Foundation. It’s important to note that we still have around $45,000 to raise to meet our local fundraising goal for the Faulkton Area Foundation so that we can get a $50,000 match from the SD Community Foundation. Once we do that we will be able to start giving grants to community projects around the Faulkton area on a regular basis. That’s why it is so important that we reach our fundraising goal before the end of this year. Overall, we are thrilled that we can give away our very first grant to a critical community project during this unprecedented event. Karen Collins of the United Church Mission team stated, “we want to give a big thank you to Bauer’s Super Valu, along with all the people who put the bags together and who volunteer on Tuesdays and Fridays when the food bank is open.” Note: the United Methodist Church’s food bank is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
