DonorsChoose.org helps students to be creative with needed supplies

First grade Faulkton Elementary teacher Melissa Hayes has applied for an on-line donation project.
The project connects the public to public schools to donate for classroom needs.
“The STEAM Learning for the 21st Century Skills is now live and ready to receive donations,” said Mrs. Hayes. “What is even better is that this project qualifies for the LIFTOFF match (until Oct. 2, when someone donates to the project and enters the code LIFTOFF, DonorsChoose.org will match their donation dollar for dollar up to $50!” she continued.
This is a very easy way to help. Materials needed are legos, play-doh, copper tape, batteries, Dash & Dot, SnapCircuits, OSMO, Makey-Makey, Ozbots, Littlebits, and more to create a MakerSpace in the school. The goal is to provide a room at school where students can have hands-on time to explore with STEAM projects. By providing this MakerSpace, a student will learn to communicate with other students while designing, experimenting, creating, inventing and problem solving. The most important quality of a Maker-Space is that it encourages creativity.
“By donating to our project, you will be helping us shape the minds of children to be creative, thinkers, problem solvers and future innovators,” said Mrs. Hayes.
“These children are our next scientists, doctors, inventors and engineers. They are our future and we need to give them the tools now to help them succeed in the future,” she continued.
“MakerSpace provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering,” she concluded.
