Carrie Deiter’s business, 163rd Street Design Company, is now located at 808 Court Street in Faulkton.

At first her “hobby” was in the garage at her home. She liked designing signs and decorations for the seasons and holidays. She started out for herself, and also making them for birthday, anniversary and wedding gifts. But, as people commented and complimented her she decided to take it one step further and her business was born.

In the spring of 2017 Carrie Deiter’s dream of starting her own business became a reality when she moved to 808 Court Street. The building she is in is also known as the former Snack Shop, Treasure’s From the Heart, Jeannies Beauty Salon and most recently Kayla Hanson’s “Scissors” beauty salon (which Hanson has now moved to her home).

In the beginning Carrie was designing her crafts in her garage. However this just became too much work cleaning up every day just so the vehicles could be put in the garage, and eventually as her business grew, there was no longer room for the vehicles. That was when she contacted Trisha Meeks (Muffin Tops) and asked if the building on 808 Court Street was available. Trisha agreed to rent the building and the renovating, cleaning and painting began to ready the building.

In her business Deiter uses a computer, Silhouette (Cricket). She has thousands of different fonts she can use for the lettering and if you wish she can put your hand drawn art into her computer and make the designs from this, or just tell her what you want and she will design the item for you. She uses stencils and also does some hand painting.

Her biggest sign to date has been the new Hope’s Playground sign on the southwest edge of Faulkton. She also designed the Faulkton All School Reunion’s plaque which was presented to Bill Schilder Sr. and family in memory of Joyce Schilder, at the reunion celebration. Another customer is Walkabout Mother Bins.

She recently placed her business on Etsy, the place to express your creativity through the buying and selling of handmade and vintage goods. Search for 163rd Street Design Co.

With Deiter’s endearing smile she stated that she loves what she is doing and is happy to be in town now. “People walk by the shop, see that I am open and walk in,” she said. “I hope to be open for the Faulkton Arts & Crafts Show which will be Saturday, Oct. 21.”

Carrie is a 1995 F.H.S. graduate, attended S.D.S.U. and received a bachelor of science in human development and sociology graduating in May of 2000. She is the daughter of Chuck and Sharon Huss and is married to Kevin Deiter. The couple have three children, Avery, Camryn and Charlie, all students in the Faulkton School District.

Her shop has no regular hours per say, but just give her a call, (605) 380-1556, and she will be happy to design whatever you have in mind.
