healthcareFaulkton Area Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Computed Tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This is a high level, gold standard of care award. CT scanning - sometimes called CAT scanning - is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

Faulkton Area Medical Center’s Administrator Jay Jahnig said that “I am so very proud of our staff here at FAMC!”

Dr. Sylvia Anderson stated, “The practice of medicine has changed drastically in the last 15 years that I have been working as a medical doctor. A healthcare provider relies not only on his/her general knowledge and skill to make a correct diagnosis and treatment plan, but also on the knowledge and skill of all other staff in the building. The knowledge base in medicine is so vast now, that not only do you need to be licensed in every area you desire to practice, you often have to “prove” to outside entities,
such as the ACR, that you can safely and effectively offer those services. I’m very pleased that FAMC has a culture of excellence in knowledge, education, and essential best-practices among all the different departments. We have received state and national awards and accreditation in many areas. I’m very proud of the radiology department for taking the next step to prove their excellence at a national level.”

“We, as a radiology team at FAMC, feel very honored to have our department be one of very few in the state of South Dakota to be accredited. We work hard on a daily basis to ensure that our community healthcare imaging needs are met, and we feel confident that we have given them the best quality care possible. I am proud of the work that our team does, and all of the time and effort put into the accreditation process. We were also chosen for a random site visit from the ACR this summer, and were deemed compliant in all areas. Congratulations to my team for their hard work to achieve this gold standard of care. I appreciate you!” said Ginny Bray, Director of Radiology at FAMC.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

When you see the gold seal of accreditation you can rest assured that FAMC will meet the highest level of patient safety and image quality while attaining the lowest radiation dose. Why? Because it means the facility and its personnel have gone through a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Among patient and physicians alike, ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging.

Faulkton Area Medical Center is one of 11 hospitals and clinics in South Dakota awarded ACR accreditation. The nearest facility with this achievement is 200 miles or more away as they are in Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Yankton.
