The City of Faulkton and the Faulk County Historical Society have received notice from the State Historic Preservation Office that the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior has listed the C.W. Parker Carousel No. 825 (aka Happy Times Carousel) in Faulkton on the National Register of Historic Places.
The National Register of Historic Places was created by the U.S. government to recognize properties which contribute to the prehistoric and historic development of our localities, states and nation. Through the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, each state participates in the identification and recognition of these important sites. In this way, we preserve the visible remnants of our country’s heritage for future generations, said Jay D. Vogt, State Historic Preservation Officer.
The Happy Times Carousel joins several other properties in Faulk County on the list including: the Pickler Mansion (1971) owned by the Faulk County Historical Society; Turner House (1986) now privately owned by Tom Edgar; Gov. Byrne House (1992) now privately owned by the Doug Wittmeier family; Faulk County Courthouse (1993); Foncannon American Legion Hall in Faulkton (2005); Dr. Edgerton House (2010) privately owned by Dorothy Huss; and the Sievers School in the Miranda area.
