News from the Development Board

April 6, 2017

cramerBy Trevor Cramer, FAEDC Economic Development Director

The mission statement for the Faulkton Area Economic Development Corporation is to “Create, grow and expand opportunities for current and future residents by engaging all of the Faulk County Community.”

Many things are happening in the Faulkton area. The new jail construction is progressing on schedule, the hospital expansion is moving right along, industrial park has water lines installed, and later this spring there will be activity on the new housing development and the city’s sewer project will begin.

The new housing development has three sizes of lots for houses from the smallest of governor’s houses on up. The smallest lot is 100’ wide by 150’ deep with the largest at 190’ wide by 207’ deep. This will provide for different housing options. There are also some walkout basement possibilities available. If you want to build a home in Faulkton, we want to help you make that happen!

Interest in lots for the industrial park and the housing development has started to pick up. We are excited about the possibilities of new businesses and new home construction in our area. If you are interested in talking about either project, please stop in.

We are also starting a Revolving Loan Fund for the Faulkton area. We applied for a grant with GOED (Governor’s Office of Economic Development) and we were approved for $50,000 with a match of $100,000. This will give us $150,000 to be available to help finance business opportunities and supporting existing businesses.

We are wanting to have a hand in helping our current businesses grow and also helping provide financing for new ventures coming to the Faulkton area.

I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to fill out the housing survey. We were encouraged by the results and this will help with the planning of future projects. The results can be found in the upper right hand corner of our website. Go check it out. If you are interested in being a part of the housing team, or any of our other pillar teams, please let me know.We welcome and encourage community input.

We have an important school board election coming up on Tuesday, April 11. Please take the time to vote either on Tuesday the 11th in the community center from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. or you can go vote now in the business manager’s office at the school. You will need to bring a form of identification, such as a driver’s license with you to vote. In closing, we invite and encourage anyone with questions pertaining to the activities of the Faulkton Area Economic Development Corporation to stop by the office, located south of the Beadle’s Auto office. The office phone number is (605) 598-3050. Our website is faulktonsd.com.

Stroy courtest of the Faulk County Record.
