Five new teachers to greet students

Five new teachers will greet students at the Faulkton Area Schools this year when classes begin next Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Teachers will have an in-service on Monday, Aug. 21. New teachers also have a special meeting on Aug. 17. Chase Casper, a native of Lake Preston, S.D., will greet kindergarten through 6th grade library, kindergarten through sixth computers, kindergarten, and first and second P.E. He will also be assistant track coach and junior high boys basketball coach.

Casper graduated from Lake Preston High School. He earned his degree from Dakota State University in the fall of 2016 in physical education, with a minor in K-12 technology and health.

This is Casper’s first teaching position.

Casper is single and enjoys playing sports along with hunting, fishing and golf.

Mallory Fischer is a native of Miller and a high school graduate of Miller High School. She received her degree from Dakota State University in 2016 for elementary education and special education with minors in educational technology and K-12 reading. Fischer’s teaching assignment at Faulkton School will be preschool and junior kindergarten.

She previously taught at Miller High School in junior high special education. Fisher is engaged to Xavier Schlechter and enjoys her family and friends and being outdoors.

Vonni Hubbell is from Avon, S.D. and an Avon High School graduate. She attended Dakota State University and received her bachelors degree in English education.

This is Hubbell’s first teaching position. Her student teaching position was in Howard, S.D.

Hubbell’s duties at Faulkton School will include teaching English for grades 8 - 12. She will also be advising sideline cheer for football games.

Hubbell is married to husband Chris. She likes to take bike rides, walk her dog Zoe, and enjoys cooking and baking.

Danica Mickelson is a Miller, S.D. native and graduated from Miller High School. She graduated from Northern State University in 2017 with double majors in music education, primarily vocal secondary and instrumental. Mickelson is the music director for the South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts from 2014 - to the present.

Mickelson will be the K-12 music director, band and choir. She is married to the Dylan Mickelson, also a teacher at Faulkton School.

She enjoys her two dogs, Dakota and Digit, anything musically related, and sewing.

Cortney Warren, is a hometown girl, from rural Faulkton.

She is a graduate of Faulkton High school and received her degree from Northern State University in elementary education in 2016. She will be the new fifth grade teacher at Faulkton School.

She previously taught first grade at Hoven for the 2016-17 school year.

Warren is married to husband Jesse. She enjoys golfing and do it yourself projects.

Changes

There was a change in position for Brice Cunningham. He has been the fifth grade teacher at Faulkton School. He will now teach at Thunderbird Colony. Cunningham’s duties as head boys basketball coach and golf remain the same.

Shayne Geditz has taken over the athletic director duties. Craig Cassens previously held this position.
