Burger Shack’s new owner

September 12, 2018

burger shackJerry Banley of Aberdeen has purchased the business from Melanie Bobby.

Banley, 37, was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School. He attended college at the University of Sioux Falls and Northern State, majoring in music performance.

He is married to wife Crystal and they have a 21 month old son, Michael. At present his plans are the commute to Faulkton for the business.

Banley is involved in audio/video productions and has a mobile recording studio. He enjoys photography and is the Jency (Melanie Bobby) Agency’s real estate photographer. Banley is a singer and plays guitar in a band, and he likes writing music.

He is also interim pastor for his church, the Evangelical Free Church. Banley acquired the pastor duties from his father, who retired, after 20 years as pastor of the church.

“There will be some changes to the Burger Shack, as in the logo and the color scheme. We will make some minor changes to the menu, and also we want to be faster, more consistent and efficient for the customers,” he stated.

His cooking abilities came from his mother. “I have four brothers and one sister, so when meal time came around, we were involved in getting the meal ready. I also have an aunt who previously ran a restaurant, and I acquired some knowledge of the business from her. I also have another aunt who ran a convenience store, with food service, and I got tips from her also,” Banley said. “I have been in the food service industry in the past, I enjoy cooking, however at home my wife does most of the cooking, except for some holidays as in Thanksgiving, I do most of the cooking.”

Banley plans on staying open seven days a week, however as the colder weather arrives, may close at 8 p.m. in the evening. He plans on doing more on-line interaction, with so many travelers coming through Faulkton he wants them to know what the Burger Shack has to offer.

It has been 15 years since the Burger Shack started, under the ownership of Marvel Hustead. Marvel sold the business to Melanie Hoke in 2009, and the addition was added in 2014, in 2017 Hoke sold the business to Melanie Bobby.

Stop in to Burger Shack and welcome the new owner, Jerry Banley.
