Big Impact on Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday takes place each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, an event created by American Express in 2010 that has been cosponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2011. This year, Small Business Saturday is on November 30th.
There is something special about walking into a local store where the owners greet you by name, swap stories, and ask how your family is doing. It creates special memories that can be cherished for years.
Shopping local has a significant impact on our local and U.S. economy. In the last 25 years, small businesses have created over 60 percent of new jobs, just one of the many vital reasons to direct holiday spending towards small businesses in Faulkton.
“You spend a dollar in your small town, and I can guarantee that the dollar will be spent somewhere else in your small town,” said Shauna Remily, owner of The Kindred Kottage. “It impacts the local economy.”
A Great Way to Say “Thank You”
It’s also a way to say “Thank you.” Our small business owners work overtime to support countless community-wide events throughout the year with monetary donations, their time and/or donated services and goods.
“Now ask yourself… how much has Amazon, Target, or other businesses outside of town contributed to Faulkton?” said Remily. “It doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing. Look at your list this year: are there two things you were going to buy online that you can get in town or purchase locally?”
We encourage you to make a day (or night) out of shopping in Faulkton. Grab a bite to eat, raise a glass with your favorite people, and start checking off your holiday shopping list with a unique purchase or gift card from any of our outstanding small businesses.
