About FAEDC
Sometimes, Supporting Local Just Means Making Your Next Hair Appointment Here in Town
Whenever we hear the words “shop local,” we usually think it means doing all of our shopping in Faulkton.
But it doesn’t mean you have to buy everything locally. It’s not meant to make you feel bad when you buy something online either.
Sometimes, supporting local is as simple as making your next hair appointment with a salon here in town.
Meet Faulkton’s Five Talented Stylists
You know how hard it is to find a great hair stylist. But here in Faulkton, you’ve got five wildly talented, locally owned hair salons to choose from.
Even better? Each of them offers something a little different.

Clip N Curl
Owner: Mary Schilder
Clip N Curl offers everything from men's, women's and children's haircuts, to permanents, colors and facial waxing.
Owner Mary Schilder's connection to Faulkton runs deep. For her and her family, being part of the Faulkton community is more than simply operating a business. It’s about living, working and raising families in the area they call home.
"My husband and I, along with our sons and families, farm west of Faulkton,” she said.
For appointments, contact her at 605-598-6777 (home) or 605-530-9559 (cell).

Street Classics
Owner: Morgan Hogg
From Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., you’ll find Morgan Hogg giving haircuts to kids, men, and women. Court Street Classics offers all those pampering extras like pedicures, facial waxing, facials, nails and tanning.
But for her, it’s as much about love and family as it is about business.
"I chose to operate in Faulkton because...well, I met the love of my life. I've always called it fate. My grandma grew up in this area and I know she led me here. It was the scariest move I have made in this lifetime, but also the greatest blessing."
Morgan loves building relationships with the residents of Faulkton and is truly grateful for everyone who has trusted her with their services.
"I couldn't have made it this far without it!" she said.
For appointments contact her at 605-290-9435. Walk-ins are also welcome!

Salon 212
Owner: Jaela Vetter
One of the things Jaela loves the most about Faulkton is its special, small town vibe.
"It is a very welcoming and supportive town!” she said.
When she’s not cutting and styling hair for men, women, and kids, you can usually find her applying new color or highlights, giving gel and acrylic manicures, or doing facial waxing.
Jaela works by appointment only, with no set days or hours. You can contact her at 605-769-0516.

Scissors
Owner: Kayla Hanson
For Kayla Hanson, owning a salon in Faulkton has been a lifelong dream.
She was born and raised here, and after graduating from Black Hills Beauty College, the opportunity came along and she jumped at it.
"I’ve been in three locations since starting in 2009. I now have an in-home salon, which makes for a more personalized experience for clients, allows me the flexibility to raise my family, and also offers clients some chaotic times when my family is home,” she says.
Kayla offers men's, women's and children's haircuts, as well as customized hair color, styling for everyday wear or special events, and facial waxing.
Scissors is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by appointment. Hours vary depending on sports schedules, “because sometimes being a small-town business owner also means being a mom and making family come first!” she jokes.
Contact her at 605-380-0063.

Shear Perfection
Owner: Char Melius
For Char, coming back to Faulkton wasn't just about finding a place to work.
"I came back to Faulkton because I was looking for belonging to a community, not just working a job,” she said.
Her salon, Shear Perfection, offers haircuts, sets, colors and perms for both women and men, as well as gel nail services and facial waxing.
She is available Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. until the last appointment is done.
To make one of your own, contact her at 605-460-0739.
Small Businesses Aren’t Just Part of Our Town, They Are the Town
A whopping 99% of all businesses in South Dakota are small businesses.
And here in Faulk County, our 143 small businesses aren’t just part of our town, they are our town.
They truly are the backbone of our economy.
And whenever you buy a product or service from them, your money stays directly in Faulk County, helping support a variety of community services, like the local volunteer fire department and ambulance crews, as well as our parks and roads.
It might not seem like a big deal, but those dollars can mean a lot to a rural community like ours.
It keeps Faulkton feeling vibrant and reduces the need to travel long distances to get things.
And each small business, like these salons, can inspire other people to open their own: everything from micro spas and massage therapy to vehicle detailing, bakeries, and handyman services.
